Abuelos

The Abuelos came over for a visit this weekend.  First and third generation Nakahodos!

LEGO Woody Clock

This is Niko's new alarm clock - how cool is this?!?!?   It's a LEGO Woody alarm click and it's fully articulated.  The arms and legs move like a real LEGO toy.  Big thanks to Aunt Katie for the Amazon gift card for his birthday!

We decided to get him an alarm clock since Niko seems to be having problems waking up for school recently....  probably because he talks to his toys all night.

Look how much he loves it!  Of course when we gave it to him, he had to change into his Woody pajamas.

Trip to the Zoo

Niko the polar bear.

Niko went to the doctor yesterday and had several shots... thanks to those shots, he spent all night throwing up.  Soooo.... I decided to keep him home from school today.  I must have taken a few crazy pills and thought it would be fun to take the kids to the zoo... by myself.  Actually, it wasn't all that bad.  Niko is getting pretty good at helping me with Ryker.

We went to the Africa section of the zoo.  We hung out at the 'overlook' area of the open run area of the zoo for a while.

At the end of the trip, it was tram/train time.  This photo of Niko is hilarious - he looks too cool to be hanging with mommie.

4 Year Check Up

Niko had his 4-year-old check up yesterday.  We are very fortunate, he's a healthy kid!  He's 41" tall (65%), 39 lbs (70%) and he has low blood pressure 98/56.  I do scratch my head at the 70% for weight... he's solid as a rock, but is a slim kid!  I have a really hard time getting pants to fit his little waist and be long enough for his legs!

This photo was taken before the shots... he had 5 shots and a finger stick! OUCH!  I felt really bad for him - it's really hard to see them in pain.  I figured he would be a bit grumpy so I kept him home with me today.  He seemed to be feeling fine after we visited Toys R Us and he got a Captain America Lego toy.... magic healing powers!

Korma!

Yea... to the untrained eye this looks weird.  Why do you have a photo of your newborn son with a dollar that has writing on it?  To the well seasoned Korma Sutra patron, this is a badge of honor.

I met Shelly for lunch yesterday and it's a tradition that when you bring a baby into the restaurant for the first time, the owner gives him a dollar with his name on it.  Well.... I am not actually sure if he does that for everyone, but Shelly and I do go there often.  I have Niko's dollar in his baby book.

Best Indian food in KC, hands down!!!

Brothers

This is actually pretty adorable.  Niko loves to hold Ryker in his lap like we do.  Ryker likes hanging out nestled between your lap and the Boppy.  This also prevents him from rolling off Niko's lap.  Win-Win.

Playdate

On Thursday we had another playdate with Will and Alyssa.  Well, as much of a playdate as you can have with babies at this age.  :)  Will and Ryker just kinda hung out on the blanket while Alyssa and I chatted.  We can tell already that they will be great friends!

Park time!

Niko and Ryker playing at the park.... well.  Niko playing while Ryker sleeps.  Neil told me that going out with Ryker right now reminds him of the Weekend at Burnie's movies... we just pose around him while he sleeps.

The weather here is BEAUTIFUL so back to the park every evening until it gets too cold.  It's a great way to get some of Niko's extra energy burned off and mommie likes getting out of the house.

Double Trouble

We took the 'new' double stroller out this weekend around the neighborhood.  Our neighborhood has two annual garage sales a year so we decided to see if there was any good deals.  Niko picked up some Smurfs magnets and Ryker got a few onesies.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

This is the dream when you have siblings... that they actually love each other.  Well... sort of.  When Ryker cries, Niko sings to him.  So cute!

I am so happy that we were able to give Niko-chan a brother.  I'm sure I will have to remind him that he once loved his brother when he gets older....

School Picnic

Niko's school had a 'Family Fun Fest' this weekend.  Niko had a really great time in the FOUR bounce houses.... that is until he got a bloody nose.  He hasn't had one of those in a while... you should have seen the volunteer's face when he came out all bloody!  He still gets them every now and again without cause.  The doctor says eventually he will out grow them... but they are still pretty scary when they happen!

Blood Work

Yesterday we had to get some blood work done on little man.   He was poked several times and finally after going to Children's Mercy, they got the blood they needed.

Ryker's aunt has a blood disorder called Spherocytosis.  This disorder is hereditary and could explain why Ryker's jaundice levels are still high.  The doctor called back this morning and he does not have the disorder, but his jaundice levels are still high.

We have an appointment next Monday to retest his jaundice levels again... hopefully they will drastically fall!

First 'Real' Bath

Ryker had his first 'real' bath tonight.  We have been waiting for everything to fall off and they finally have.  He did really well!  He was pretty chill about the whole thing until I washed his hair... he was not really a fan of that part.

A lazy Wednesday night

Hehheheh.... Daddy is going to hate it that I posted this.  Here is Ryker and Daddy catching a snooze.

Meanwhile, Niko and I baked a cake.

Will Ryker

Yes... this is actually Will Ryker. Doh. Here is Alyssa's William and my Ryker.

Walking again

We did a 3-mile walk yesterday.  It felt good to be out and about again.  This park is near Niko's school so I did a few laps then picked him up.

Mommie was smart this time around and pre-pumped a bottle for the walk.  Good thing because just past the mile and a half marker, someone was up and hungry!  I have nursed in the car several times, but it's still just a bit weird to nurse at a park.....

Silly Faces

This is his 'I'm checking things out' face.  :)

First Walk

 Zzzzzzz.....

Zzzzz....... zzzz......

Zzzzzz.....  zzzzz....  zzzzzz.......

Ryker and I took our first walk today.  He was completly asleep for the entire walk, but I was happy to get out.  I took an easy since it has only been 2 weeks since delivery, but I did a mile and a half with no problem.  I think we will up that to 2-3 miles tomorrow.

This park has a trail around a lake and a small wooded area.  I'm gonna explore some of the northland parks this week.

2 week check-up

Ryker had his 2 week check up today.  He is still yellow from jaundice, but not as bad.  They drew some blood and I hope to have the test results back today.

He's still a pretty small guy, but has gained back his birth weight and more.  He's now 6 pounds, 12.5 ounces and 20.5 inches long.  His weight is only at the 6 percentile (!) and his length is 30 percent.

Block Party

We had our annual cul-de-sac party this weekend.  We had a great time and met a few new neighbors.  The housing market in our area is starting to pick up and several houses around us have finally sold.  Yay!

Niko had a great time running around and playing with the neighbors.  Then he used Ryker's head as a launching pad for the Human Torch and I had to get on to him about being gentle with his brother.  Sigh....

Jaundice

Ugh.  It's hard for me to even post this picture.  Here is my beloved new son drinking formula.  Gross.  Well, Ryker's jaundice has not gotten any better so the doctor has diagnosed him with breastmilk jaundice.  I have never even heard of it before, but it does exist.

We took him to the doctor on Thursday after noticing that and even the whites of his eyes are yellow!!!  Once again, he had his blood drawn and his bilirubin rate spiked up to 16 mg/dl (should be under 5 mg/dl.)

One of the things you can do is suspend breastfeeding for 3 days in an attempt to "reboot" the digestive system.  That's what we will be doing this weekend.  We have another appointment on Monday to see if it works!

Niko's 4th Birthday Party!

At first Niko was shocked... then a bit scared... then shocked again by the Chuck E. Cheese robot.

Chuck E Cheese then came out in 'real life' and put a crown on Niko's head and proceeded to dance with the kids.

Here is his pimp crown....

After the crowning, medallioning and dancing, they stick the birthday kid in the ticket blaster.  It looks like one of those 70's game show gimmicks.   You can sort of see the look of horror/wonder on his face.

He scored the best prize!  1,000 tickets!

The last known photo of the Lego cake...

Candles out!  Then it's game time!

Niko with his buddy Louis.

 Alyssa and Louis.

Godparents and Grandma 'O'.

Our group loved the skeeball games.

 Gooch showing his NBA skillz.

The Browning Boys playing games with Niko-chan.

Parents with the Birthday Boy!  (Proof we love him.)  :)   And yes... this was the best photo of him we got.  It was hard to pry him away from the games.
