Inspector Niko

One of Niko's homework assignments was to give them a magnifying glass and ask them to look for dusty places. After they found them, they were supposed to draw what they found. If I had known how much he would like the magnifying glass, I could have gotten one for him for his birthday! :)

Ewwwww.....

Monsters in the Park

Once again hanging at Penguin Park only this time, it must be a hard-hat zone. I found this Monsters Inc. hat at a thrift store for a buck! What a deal! It says Disney on Ice on the back and I'm pretty sure it was more than a dollar at the event.

Sweet. He loves it and it actually fits his giant head! Sure, he looks a bit silly wearing it at the park, but he insisted....

Post-doctor's vist ice cream

I took Niko to Maggy Moo's for some ice cream therapy after his 3-year-old doctor's visit.

He got a finger stick for lead poisoning (thanks Jackson County) and his flu shot. Unfortunately, Niko recognizes the doctor's office building so the water works started as soon as I pulled in the driveway.

Niko is in good health! His giant head is still on the growth chart... barely. 99th percentile, but I am glad it's still on the chart. He is in the 60-70% for height and 78% for weight! Fatty.... I think most of his weight is in that giant "Uncle Donnie" head myself.

Digging in.

He's looking for more gummy bears....

Let's Dance!

As many of you know, I work for a local municipality. My City is a Let's Move! City (the Michelle Obama initiative) and we have implemented Let's Move! Saturdays! This program features free or reduced cost events for kids to get up and get moving at different locations around town. The first one was at Dynamic Dance.

Niko was pretty hesitant at first.... but really got into it after a bit.

He really just spun around with the scarf most of the time.

Liked the sticks.

Look at those Jazz hands!!!

And finally a conga line! I may have to look into some kinda dance or tumbling class for Niko this fall. He really did like the class.

Mega Bloks man

Pulled out Niko's cereal tonight and found a prize..... look how happy he is to be covered in Reese's Cereal.

I hope the wedding goes smoother!

Rough times... did not like putting on the tux.

Sad, angry...

Finally came out of the changing room after 15 minutes of crying. I think we are going to need to load up on the M&M's for the ceremony!

Birthday party at McDonald's

Yea, I know... what TWO parties???!?!?! Well, that's how we roll. The Great Wolf Lodge was really fun, but we couldn't really afford to take all his friends to the waterpark. The McDonald's by us has a private party room you can "rent" (with a food purchase) and it comes with cake and ice cream.

All Niko really wanted to do was play on the Playground though....

Niko really didn't know what to think of everyone singing to him.

Woah! Who is that?

Ronald! Totally by coincidence, there was an in-store appearance of Ronald McDonald scheduled the same day and time as Niko's party. It was really fun to see all the kids get all excited to see him. The guy in the costume did a great job and the kids were STOKED to have him play in the playground with them.

Penguin Park

Ahhhh.... Penguin Park. Seriously, one of the BEST playground parks in the Metro. Even with the weird HUGE penguin, elephant and kangaroo!

Dino rider!

Tubes! Love living so close to an awesome park. The weather has been soooo nice lately, we have hit the park almost every night.

Flower Girl Basket and Ring Bearer Pillow!

I finished up the Flower Girl basket and Ring Bearer Pillow on Tuesday night for Mark & Shelly's wedding. They are based on Mark's robot characters.....

The robot's head is the Flower Girl Basket and the robot's body is the Ring Bearer's pillow. The robot arms will hold the rings.... (Fake rings of course. No wise person would put the REAL rings in my son's hands!)

I think they turned out pretty cool considering I didn't really know what I was going to do! I just kinda started cutting and assembling... that is not my usual way. I usually start with a very structured drawing.... this was a pretty fun project!

Birthday Weekend!

We went to the Great Wolf Lodge for Niko's Birthday this weekend. It's an indoor waterpark over by the Kansas Speedway for those who are not local. I packed just about the whole house... except my camera! Grrrr.... so cell phone picts ahead!

Niko's "Baby Cake" kinda survived the trip...

But not he war. Oh man... rough day Baby...

Then off to the waterpark! :)

We had a great time at the waterpark and I must say, if it were up to Niko we would still be there.

Niko fixing his hair with Do-Da.

Niko had a REALLY GREAT time with Do-Da and Grandpa. He looked for them in the bedroom they slept in the next day. Thank you so much for coming to visit! :)

"Baby Cake"

This cake starts with two seperate cakes.... and one of these days I need to buy REAL cake pans. I only have casserole dishes... hence the rounded corners. The second cake didn't come out so nice... extra frosting!

Then I cut out the baby shape. This will be a 2D cake.

Add frosting.... I had thought about piping the nose and smile all crazy/loose threads like the real baby, but didn't.

Niko was stoked to see his "baby" cake. He told me, "That's a BABY CAKE!"

Then he got down to business..... eating the left over frosting.
