Hummmmmmmus

"Hey...  I sucked all the hummus off this snap pea... can I get some more?"

Niko had his first taste of hummus last night.  I have been giving him snap peas to eat while I get his dinner ready - and to my surprise he likes them.  I have been eating them a lot lately with hummus so when he saw me dipping mine in to hummus, he naturally wanted some too.

I have been working on a bunch of stuff for Niko's birthday.  I have made a few hats and a few bibs - they are kinda big on him now, but he is only getting bigger.  I made a smaller bib that I will try on him tonight.

Unfortunately, my sewing machine died on me Tuesday night... I brought it in to be serviced (again) and I won't get it back for 2 weeks.  I'm going to borrow "Grandma O's" machine over the weekend so I can finish his jacket.

The next time my machine acts up I think I'm going to replace it.  My trusty Kenmore is almost 30 years old and I think it's just getting tired.  My mom gave me the machine about 5 years ago and this is it's third time I have had it repaired.  It's been plagued with bobbin problems recently.

Any suggestions on a new machine anyone?

Please let this be a hobby... not a career

Niko had fun playing with Aunt Shelly's drums the other night.  We are hoping this is not a career choice... he can't pick a more worthless career than his parents!  Go into the medical field Niko - not the arts!!!

I'm helping

We have joined 2006 and upgraded to a DVR cable box.  This way we can record Mickey Mouse Playhouse for someone....

Niko was super curious about the new box and wanted to "help" daddy install it.

Ethnic Fest

We went to Ethnic Fest on Sunday - it was pretty fun!  We sampled food from all over the world.  Niko liked the hamburger the best... like father like son.  (Neil's idea of exotic.)  :)

I can eat them all by myself - no need to cut them up.  I've got chompers for that!

Height chart

I have been looking for a height chart that I like.... but I haven't found one.  So... I made one.  

Blogger doesn't really support long, skinny images so this is what it looks like cut in half and side by side.

I'm going to have it printed on banner material then I will sew pockets on the top and bottom.  Once that is done, I can run a dow rod through the holes and hang it on the wall like a scroll.

I will post some photos of it when it's done!

First busted lip

If you have ever been to our house you have seen the ledge.  I hate the ledge... it's a step that is in our living room in front of the fireplace.  It makes no sense to be there and Niko will not stay off of it.  Sooo... the inevitable happened last night - he smashed his face on it.

There was tears, blood and two scared parents.  But after we wiped his lips off, it wasn't that bad.  He has a tiny cut on the outside, inside and gum line.  They are really small - not big enough for a stitch.  

I'm sure it won't be the last bloody lip... ugh.  

Biting

This used to be one of Niko's favorite car toys.  I would give him this on the way home from daycare.  Yesterday evening he did this to it.  I couldn't see what he was doing because I was driving  He didn't eat any of the pieces - he just chewed them off and spit them out.

We are really going to have to watch what we give him now!  He's got 5 teeth now.. the top left one broke through while we were up in Chicago.  He's dangerous now...

More nerd

The dark lord barely fits in this costume anymore!

I bought this costume for $20 a while ago - this was the original costume that Niko was going to wear to the con.  I could hardly make this costume for under $20 so that's why I bought it.  I actually bought two... this one and one size up.

Niko was pretty fussy last night so I didn't get too many nice picts.  Neil thinks it's because he hates being in costumes, but I think it's just because he was sleepy.  I think he likes being in costumes - he always looks in the mirror and laughs.

Hee.. hee... hee... found it on Craigslist!

Sorry for the crappy Craigslist photo.  I found almost the same chair that my mom has on Craigslist.  I'm going to check it out tonight.  If it all works out, it will be mine for only $25!  Woot!

The hardest thing will be not giving it to Niko early...

Possible Christmas present

While we were in Chicago, Niko fell in love with this chair.  My parents bought it for my niece Jenny about 8 years ago.  He loved it so now the hunt is on!  Time to scrub the web to see if I can find one.....  Christmas present!

Chicago 2009

We are back from our annual trip to Chicago.  It was really great being home for a while.  We did a ton of stuff - we went to Brookfield Zoo, the Comic-con and Field Museum.  Niko did really well all weekend long.  I was shocked how well he did on the 8+ hour long drive.

Wow... TV.

I have been putting Niko in his costume every night so he will get used to it.  He's getting much better at walking around in it.  He should be used to it by Con-time.

Niko has discovered TV - specifically the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  He dances and sings when it comes on.  Look at him STARE at the TV... it's hypnotizing!
